Training & Behaviour

Lisa believes every dog needs something a little different in order to learn and heal. You and your dog have unique personalities and quirks that should be celebrated in the way that you train, interact and adventure. Lisa uses your dog's unique genetic makeup, personality, behaviours and boundaries to create a personalised plan. This knowledge will be obtained through your initial consultation, questionnaire and observation. Lisa never uses force or the dominance theory.

Lisa's Method

What to Expect Working with Lisa

Lisa will provide a unique, honest and customised approach to you and your dog's individual situation. She believes there is never a "one size fits all" approach with dogs which makes every situation a completely unique one.

The first step in the process is a comprehensive consultation where you will be asked to have an open and honest chat about you and your dogs current lifestyle, habits and where you may feel you are struggling.

Next you will discuss your goals in working together. The main question you will be asked to answer is "What is most important to me and my dog?"

If you and Lisa feel you are the right fit for one another, she will take the information you have provided to develop a training plan based your dog's unique personality, lifestyle and genetic make up. You will then schedule in an initial session to kick off the training plan.

When training begins the most important aspect is the owner's participation, cooperation and implementation of what is being taught, counter conditioned or trained. At the end of the training plan, it will just be you and your dog. If you do not continue with what you have learned then your dog will follow this lead.

Is Lisa the Right fit for you and your dog?

When choosing a dog trainer for you and your dog, it is important to research training and behaviour modification techniques you believe in and are ready to commit to.

Lisa uses a mix of training techniques depending on the owner and dog's needs as well as the dog's initial response to training. In most cases she uses positive reinforcement through clicker training, event marking, counter conditioning and desensitisation.

When working with dogs that have previous trauma or have fear and anxiety based behavioural habits it is really important that the dog takes the lead. Staying at their comfort threshold will be key to their success.

When training basic behaviours such as loose leash walking and jumping up, operant conditioning may also be used. However Lisa does not believe in the dominance theory and will not tolerate yelling, force or shock and prong techniques.
